Autumn leaves

Autumn is here. Sound the alarm, it’s time to start dressing like an autumn leaf.

So in the spirit of creating my handmade wardrobe I started to actually try and plan what I need out of an autumn outfit. This is just the beginning.

When I started sewing my magpie tendencies meant that I rarely sew a pattern twice, but this isn’t a particularly cost effective or sustainable way to create a wearable wardrobe.

9 months into my sewing challenge I’m drawn to more simple patterns that I can make in a zillion different ways and that will take a variety of seasons.

Brrr…sewing just got real dude.

This is my completed repeated Meliot, Moss, and Astoria combo.Like a happy meal in fabric form.

A bit of autumn layering, with snuggly plaid shirt and heavy brushed cotton twill skirt, topped off with a sweater on a September day hotter than a July day at the beach. Excuse my expression, it’s September heat exhaustion. Common in those of us who get over excited by wrapping up warm, blankets and boxsets as soon as the new school shoes go on.

Regular readers may note that I have actually left the house for this blog post. We popped out for coffee at our local swanky pants beauty spot Mount Edgecumbe. We can get from Devon to Cornwall by boat in just under 10 minutes, rest assured you do not have to drive the boat yourself.

 

The combo sewing has also been sparked my small person starting school. It feels like I’ve reached a watershed moment and I’m looking for clothes to sew that will serve the school run and work moments either that or maybe I’ll just sew some stylish school run PJ’s!

I’m looking forward to expanding on my autumn foundation combo, because let’s face it once the dismal weather hits the UK it will last for around 8 months until we emerge pale from underneath the duvets and netflix.

I’m going to SewBrum this weekend, so I’m really looking forward to meeting the sewing tribe IRL.
