I AM…ARTEMIS

So it turns out that my attempts to invoke some Spring sunshine with my sewing have worked! Down here us South West folk have been revelling in all the amazing Spring sunshine this week.

Obviously I had to celebrate by dressing up as a giant daffodil in my garden. I’m pretty sure I had some confused bees buzzing around me in the garden!

I really struggle with second half of winter, I’m sure many people feel that everything after Xmas and before the clocks change to summertime is a bit of a slog. So making happy yellow clothes really helps my mood and gives me hope that I’ll be able to step out of the door without 5 layers of knitted things and a storm level waterproof!

My absolute state of yellow comes in the form of the I AM ARTEMIS pattern from I AM patterns. I AM does a great line in minimal, free size style patterns. If you’ve never used them before they are French company who also have English translations available.

If you want to have a bash at a coat but you’re afraid of attempting a lining this is the perfect starter. I’ve made this one up in a fairly sturdy yellow cotton from Stofstil that wasn’t quite what I thought it would be…ah the perils of buying fabric online. I think a long length jacquard version beckons!

I mean the main attraction for me was clearly the massive pockets. They’ve been thoroughly tested and I fitted in a paperback, my phone and a pair of pruning shears while I carried my coffee up to the garden to do some springtime pottering. I basically stalk around my garden waiting for signs of springtime…I get really excited by crocuses and our annual bluebells showing their beautiful faces.

Spring is finally here and I can feel myself torn between sewing indoors and soaking up all the Vitamin D that I can get! Clearly I need to buy a really long extension lead and start sewing outside…does anyone do this by the way? I would love to know if there are any outdoor sewists in our midst.

I’ve been at the beach all morning, in the garden all afternoon planting up some veggies and now we’re off to the sea front for an evening stroll in all my yellow glory.

Summer is right around the corner…better start sewing!
